The Congolese Revolutionary Army (ARC) marked a new phase in the strengthening of its military capacity on Sunday February 8, 2026, during an official ceremony held in Tshanzu to recognize the completion of training for a new cohort of commandos.

A total of 7,532 newly trained commandos have now been integrated into the ARC’s operational units, following what was described as an intensive and methodically structured training program. This forms part of a broader effort aimed at consolidating the group’s military capabilities and enhancing its operational effectiveness.

Focus on Discipline and Command Structure

Officials overseeing the training stressed that the program placed strong emphasis on discipline, coordination between units, and strict respect for the chain of command. These elements were presented as essential foundations for building an organized and effective armed force capable of executing complex operations.

Within areas currently under its control, the AFC-M23 asserts that ARC activities are limited to strictly military missions, including the securing and defense of strategic positions, as well as the control of key routes and operational zones.

Command and Operational Doctrine

Operating under the leadership of Major General Sultani Makenga, the ARC portrays itself as a structured and disciplined force, drawing on what it describes as substantial field experience. Commanders highlighted the importance of coherent leadership and clearly defined operational objectives, which they view as decisive factors in conducting effective military operations.

Larger Security Implications

Beyond the announcement of increased troop numbers, the operational reinforcement of the ARC carries broader implications for the security situation in eastern DRC. Observers note that the long-term impact of this development will depend not only on internal organization and discipline, but also on the evolving political, security, and humanitarian context particularly concerning the ongoing deadly attacks committed by the Kinshasa regime coalition (namely FARDC, FDNB, Wazalendo, FDLR) on civilians, notably the Congolese Tutsi community. This development occurs amidst repeated ceasefire violations by the Kinshasa regime. Corneille Nangaa has stated however that if Kinshasa desires war, it will face war; however, if it chooses to honor its commitments, then M23 will also opt for peace.
